There are many different one piece MSR mounts on the market and while Warne® offers MSR mounts for all budget levels and shooting styles, we have never offered an ultra light option until now.
Introducing the Hyperlite™ MSR Mount
Most ultra-light MSR mounts achieve weight reduction by either skeletonizing (removing material) the mount body or reducing the amount of hardware being used. The skeletonising route can be effective as long as material is not thinned out in critial areas for strength. The other typical way to reduce weight is to reduce the hardware and simplify the design. The more steel hardware you can remove, the lighter the mount will be. However, the removal of the hardware and simplifying the design can lead to compromises in strength or stability.
Hyperlite is different, machined from our exclusive MagnaFusion™ alloy, we are able to reduce mount weight without sacrificing strength. The Warne Hyperlite MSR mount features a sleek/stylish design, 2 steel crossbolts along with 2 integral recoil lugs, 4 screw caps and a cerakote® finish for corrosion and abrasion resistance.
How light is Hyperlite?
For a general reference we will compare the weight of Hyperlite to one of our most popular mounts, the XSKEL. The XSKEL mount series is a long time favorite of many shooters and with its skeletonized design, it is no heavyweight. A 30mm XSKEL mount weighs 6.5oz compared to the Hyperlite MSR which comes in at a mere 4.25oz. That is a 34.6% weight reduction in a comparable style of mount. That kind of weight savings really needs to be felt to truly appreciate how light Hyperlite really is.
Who is Hyperlite for?
With all of the modern accessories that are commonly mounted to tactical AR-15's, like lights, IR lasers, suppressors, optics and other accessories, the scale can tip quickly. Soon the short and light rifle turns into a heavyweight. Saving ounces wherever you can, can really add up in the grand scheme. The Hyperlite MSR mount may be just the ticket to shed unwanted heft.
Multigun is all about going fast (and of course hitting the targets...) and when you are going fast you don't want to haul around a boat anchor of a rifle. With all of the lightweight race gun parts you could fit to your rifle, the scope mount is rarely a consideration, but with the weight savings Hyperlite offers, it's a no-brainer for competition shooting.
The AR style of rifle is also an increasingly popular hunting rifle. One of the major downsides is that in common hunting cartridges like the .308 Win, rifles tend to be on the heavy side. This is another case where smart choices of accessories where you can save a few ounces can add up to big weight savings in the total package.
The Verdict
The Warne Hyperlite MSR mount is no ordinary AR scope mount. The cutting edge technology and materials used are truly a step up from existing mount designs. Hyperlite is a prime example of less being more. To learn more and shop Hyperlite MSR mounts, follow the links below.
